Battleship! The Movie
July 27th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Woo! where do people come out with all theses stuff?
I was just reading an article about how the next big movie is going to be ”Battleship” Yep, the game board is hitting the big screens next summer. Weird right??
What will be next Monopoly??
One thing is for sure, now a days, a popular Kids game board, TV show, or books are all being turn into a movie. What sucks is that the movies are not be aimed to please the young audience but for the adults.
For example, TRANSFORMERS! the TV show was aim for 10-year-old kids, but was turn into an action movie with sexual and violent images. (but don’t get me wrong the sequels were really good) But, since the show was aimed for the youngsters, shouldn’t hollywood make it for the youngsters?
Nonetheless, I just find it interesting how film makers can make anything, find a plot, and turn it into a huge hit. BATTLESHIP! I cant wait to see how this movie will do next summer and wander would it be a huge success just like Transformers.
California Dream Act Passed
July 27th, 2011 § Leave a Comment
On Monday, July 25, California’s governor Brown signed the California Dream Act.The “AB 130 allows undocumented students attending California state universities to apply for financial aid funded by the private sector.”
While many are debating the consequences of the act, many undocumented students are celebrating. “The bill will be active beginning January 1, 2012.”However, it’s a big deal for undocumented students, but the news network like ABC do not cover the story completely or as much. Unlike spanish channels like Univision, they focus a lot on the story. It is made bigger on spanish networks then any other news networks because like Univision, they have a large latino audience.
If the story were to be aired on KTLA only and was the only important story, not many viewers would find it as interesting and important as to the latino community. And because the KTLA audience are mostly white Americans then Hispanics, the white americans would find it important but not as much as the latinos.
This new is mostly aimed for Hispanics, therefore, would be made much bigger where there is a big latino audience then for a white American audience.
US loses to Japan and breaks Twitter record

As the USA Women’s National Soccer Team, came so close to winning their 3rd World Cup, they let is slip away in the penalties. It had the whole country talking about it, that it broke Twitter record. (Which was perviously set by international news such as the royal wedding and Osama Bin Laden death.)
Although, the USA team did not win the cup, it grabbed a lot of audience. According to an article on ESPN, an unprecedented 7,196 tweets per second were twitted on the last moment of the match. I was glad to see how many tuned in to watch the Women’s World Cup. They had more audience/attention then the previous one. And it also amazes me how technology has changed in recent years. As things occur in the world, we can easily go on Twitter and you can find out a lot without having to watch the television or hear from the radio. Back in 2003, the Women’s World Cup wasn’t tweeted because there was no Twitter. And now you see many politics, artist, and friends tweet about the game result.
USA lost the game, but nonetheless, the Women’s World Cup was seen and talked about more than other recent games. And that was nice. For once, we focused on the women’s soccer team than the mens.
“Carmageddon, Schmarmageddon”
July 19th, 2011 § Leave a Comment
To the Carmangeddon that wasn’t.
What happen to all the traffic that the 405 freeway was going to caused when it closed for 3 nights?Nothing. There was no traffic at all. But, the media made sure to let their audience know how crazy it was “supposably” going to be on Carmageddon weekend. The news counted down the days, weeks and month to aware the people of Los Angeles not to drive on July 15-17 and it was best to stay home. Newspaper, networkers, and radios exaggerated that the three day closure was going to cause the worst traffic in Los Angeles history. And It didn’t, although, networks did do a good job and got people to stay home and watched the Mulholland Bridge get destroyed. While traffic in LA was so light and it sure was peaceful without those many crazy drives out there.
But “Will there be harmony again in 11 months?” Now that many families have seen the outcome of the 405 closing. And NO TRAFFIC?
USA Goes To The Finals!

It’s On!
On Sunday July 17, there will be one Women’s World Cup champion. USA or Japan. The USA team is one step closer on receiving their third World Cup. The USA team has defeated Norway in 1991 and China in 1999. The team will be the first team to have 3 World Cups if they win this upcoming Sunday.
It is really exciting to see how the Women’s World Cup is becoming bigger in the US. The medias are covering the games more. And there are more people talking about it. When I would turn on to ESPN, women’s soccer was hardly ever mention and now that’s not the case. The US team is going to the finals! and the media should talk about it! The women’s soccer team is proving to have a better team than the men’s soccer team. So how come it wasn’t made a big deal before? The USA women’s team has existed for a very long time and has won 2 World Cups, but they have never really been mention or seen on TV like the men’s national soccer team. I honestly never even knew we had a Women’s World Cup until this year. And I’m sure I am not the only one. When the Men’s World Cup was occurring last year, everyone was talking about it. The men’s soccer games got more attention. It was made bigger. They had commercials, billboards, and many more sponsors. I ask myself why men’s soccer is made a bigger deal and not women’s? but although, women’s soccer team doesn’t receive as much attention as it should, hopefully this year, it will change and the women’s team will be covered like it is today and just like the men’s soccer games.
Royalty in L.A

The newlyweds, Prince William and his lovely wife Catherine, were in Los Angeles this past weekend. The royals were greeted by the governor Jerry Brown and mayor Antonio Villaragosa when they arrived friday afternoon. Their arrival was the most anticipated arrival. Every channel I clicked on, the duke and duchess, were on the news. Channel 9, in fact had the whole event cover, cameras were all over the Princess and the future King, from the start when they arrived at LAX until they left Sunday afternoon. The only news, were the royalties, nothing else seemed to be on. What I found to be really interesting was how majority of the channel were all about the Cambridges, but when I tune in to watch Univision, a spanish channel, that wasn’t the case, the newlyweds were not on the news. That was probably the only channel. Although, there are many things occurring in the world, that are more important than the duke and duchess at Los Angeles, every network was covering the same story. perhaps, because we need a break from the real world? As many argue “who cares about them,” people still seem to actually watch the story.
I also found it funny how the news anchor talk more about what Princess Catherine was wearing then the reason they are in LA. They mention the reason, charity work, but not as much as the fashion. Every time the duchess changed an outfit, they spent 20 minutes or more talking about her style. What does her style of dressing have to do with the charity work they came to do here in LA? When I log into AOL or YAHOO, the outfits the Princess wored, were all over the front page. And when I tune in to watch more recent news, the talk was still about the dress worn by the princess and who were the designers. Really? What does the outfit have to do with the Royals coming to Los Angeles? The reason for their visit was charity work. The attention should have been focused on the charity and not on the fashion.
Women in Present Time

How do we really view women in present time compare to the past? Looking at it in a traditional view, women must still provide the basic needs for a man which is cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children, but, on the other hand, some women are required to work and others work because it pleases them, but some must still keep the household clean. Women have gotten far in the work field, but regardless men are still more powerful at the workfield- a women’s salary is less because of, just that, being a women. There only a few successful women in the world that run companies, more than before. In the 2009 study, one women made the top 100 list of best performing CEO. Thats one out of a hundred! and there are many CEOS women. How come they didn’t make the cut? When you view a magazine about this successful women though, they are criticized a lot. For some reason, in magazines, their outfits are mention more rather than their business strategies.
There are successful women but majority have a difficult time settling down. For example, I know a doctor who is very successful but has a hard time settling down because of her success. She has gone on dates and she has had a few boyfriends who have used her for her money or broken up with her because she makes more money than her. Her husband left her because she made more money than him. In a man’s eye, a women must not be more successful than a male. Like in the movie Women of the Year. Tom, the sports reporter leaves his successful wife Tess and in the end of the movie Tess leaves her job so she can be a housewife. Women are seen doing both, maintaining a career and family. Women have come so far compare to the 1940s but we still have more to accomplish.
Casey Anthony Found Not Quilty
July 6th, 2011 § Leave a Comment
Today, Casey Anthony was found not guilty for the murder of her two year old daughter. And everyone is talking about it, including the celebrities. Celebs like Mandy Moore, Kathy Griffin, Carlson Daly, ect. all had something to tweet about the case. But I ask myself why is this article on the most popular column in the AOL homepage? Wouldn’t the actual article of the case be most popular? What these actor tweet about shouldn’t really matter, the case is what matters.
Although, I think ”A jury only sees the evidence they are allowed to see, and the public at large, never views a trial from that perspective. What you see on TV is not what the jury sees.” We are all going to have different opinions but the Celebs have a huge audience of fans, and what they tweet about influence those people who have not heard about the Anthony trial, and believe them. And we ourselves, most of us believe Anthony should have been found guilty but we are not in the courtroom throughout the whole hearing. We only listen to the news and read articles. The news puts on air what they find most important/interesting. We can’t say much if we are not in that courtroom.
You cant believe everything you read

I was surfing the web last night and I found a blog that really interest me. The blog was about the Gold Cup final. USA vs Mexico. The girl blogged about an article she had read on the “Sporting News” about how Mexican fans booed the US national anthem two years ago. In her headline she wrote ”los estúpidos” referring to the Mexico fans that attended the game on Sat June 25. I just found it really crazy though because the article she was blogging about was from the past game (2 years ago) and her followers believed it was from the recent game.
So they started criticizing and making racist comments. She also wrote about the LA Times sports article, from her view it stated that Mexicans were booing the national anthem but when I click on the LA Times the article was completely different then how she explained it. The article stated how Mexican fans were booing the US players. Theres a huge difference.
I found it really interesting how all her follower believed her and agreed with her blog. Did they not click the links to the article she used? But still, those follower weren’t at the game. None of them attended. So why do they believe her? If you were not in the arena then you are not entirely sure if the blog is true. Just because some article she read states that majority of the fan were Mexicans and they booed the US players doesn’t mean that the national anthem was booed. You were not there to witness the game so you can’t have a say in it and believe that’s how it actually happen. And for all we know the US fans could have also booed the Mexican national anthem. We don’t know that right? Because we were not there!
Abercrombie & Fitch: Thongs for the Young?
June 28th, 2011 § Leave a Comment
I am not an Abercrombie & Fitch fan. I have never been or worn clothes from the store. I have never cared about the controversial problems that surrounded them until today. This might be old news but I was having a conversation with one of my classmates about how marketers are targeting young kids to adult stuff. She brought up the example of Abercrombie & Fitch selling little girls thongs.. I was seriously shocked!
Who does that? Sell young girls thongs. why do clothing lines need to target kids to look older than they are. I don’t think its appropriate for an 8-year-old to wear a thong and for the company to think its cute. It is not cute when you see a child trying to look and behave older than they are. to try to look like the models on the Ad. This company need to stop portraying girls as skinny, fit, and pretty with all the make up on. Kids should live their childhood instead of having to worry about what they should wear and if looks good on them . Marketers need to let kids be kids.
